Year of Projects: Week 20

Not much has been done this week knitting wise.

I randomly decided to start the second sock for the Dark Isle socks I started way back when. I'm a little bit further on than shown in the above picture.  I can't wait to have them on feet!

I frogged the Circe socks I was working on last week. I was completely off for the foot chart and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I had to battle with the library's ball winder and that caused even more of a headache but the yarn is somewhat saved and will be used again for the Circe socks.

After the dismay of the Circe socks, I actually picked up the Istanbul socks and made some progress on it. I'm on the toe for the first sock. I don't have a picture of it this week since that would require unpacking some stuff I don't want to deal with until tomorrow.

I also caked the yarn for the Vamp socks. It's the lovely Blood Orange colourway from Sweet Georgia Yarns.

Makes sense for vampire inspired socks right?

On a more personal point, I finally got a job! It's seasonal and it's part time but it's at least a start :)

Year of Projects: Week 3

The "photo-shoot" is finally done. What did I learn from this experience? Check out my bags of WIPs. I really need to finish some more projects before I start with anything else.

(Neatly put together)

(The hidden explosion of projects)

The Bex
Started October 1, 2012.  I had to battle with this yarn; not while knitting but when trying to wind the skein into a cake.  I ended up with so much yarn barf that I looked at it in disgust and left for New Jersey to visit family.  Those 2 balls you see is what I have remaining.  I hope it's enough to finish the 2nd sock.

The Stitch Surfer:
Started on November 30, 2012.  The only reason I stopped was because I had never finished a toe up sock before and was not grasping how to bind off.  Suffice it to say, it's doesn't make it past my foot, much less my leg.  T suggested that I just unpick the bind off and redo it...talk about a "duh" moment.

The Dark Isle:
Started March 17, 2013.  I specifically dyed the yarn for these socks...well not all of it, just the gradient yarn.  I think it turned out pretty good.  I just have to find the time (and get my 2US needles free again) to finish them.  I don't think it will take too long.

Forget Hermione! These are for me
Started April 12, 2013.  I started these as a dye challenge.  It was supposed to be dye and knit a project in a month.  I was doing so well! And then I broke not 1 but 2 of my DPNs.  I started going on the circular needles and I was not enjoying the process.  I lovingly bagged up the project and said "forget it" until I could get some DPNs.  Now I have them (as seen in the above picture) and I don't have the time right now.  I want them done by the fall so I can wear them.

Basically Perfect Baby Socks
Started May 21, 2013.  This should have been a quick project.  I finished the first sock within a couple days and the other one is still on the needles (the 2US needles that I need to get free to do the Dark Isle socks).  I can get it done but I think it's the boredom of stockinette (and laziness) that keeps me from doing it.

Shapely Boyfriend Cardigan
Started April 2, 2013.  I had been making good progress on this cardigan.  I am at the waist shaping and I want to continue however the call of the Cookie Socks is a bit stronger. I was hoping to have this done in for the fall but I think I'm going to have to be a bit more realistic on the time constraints.

Anklet #1
Started May 30, 2013.  I'm pretty certain these will be cute when finished.  I already started decreasing for the toe.  I'll like to have the mismatched pair finished soon mostly due to the fact that I don't like the yarn that is being used for the cuff, heel and toe.

Tiberius
Started June 18, 2013. Love the look of these socks but there's not rush on these ones.  That's pretty much it for now.  How much writing is expected for ribbing?

...fascinating
Started June 10, 2013.  Yes!  I finished the first sock and I'm just past the ribbing on the second sock.  I want these done ASAP.  I want a new pair to wear, despite the fact I have barely worn the Pirouette and Tulip socks that I finished less than 2 months ago.  They are so squishy and soft and pretty :D  By the way, I am a convert to Tanis yarn now that I've finally knitted with 1 of my 3 skeins.

Blankie

Started July 13, 2012.  Wow! It's been just over a year and look at how big it's gotten! As of the time of typing this update, there is 107.5 squares and by the time I finish this knitting year, I want to be at 250 squares.  Note: I am so short that even when standing on a chair, I still couldn't get the entire thing in one picture.

Now onto the forgotten projects.

Slide Socks
You can already see that one of the socks is off the needles.  I was trying to do these socks 2 at a time and I was not successful.  I will make these socks out of this yarn but I think I'm going to try winding them into balls and working on each sock seperately.

Anisette Cardigan
As I have mentioned before, the back is utter perfection...but I just don't think I really want the cardigan out of this yarn and it would be nice if the sleeves were the correct size.  I'd rather just toss out the whole thing and make it again from a different kind of yarn.  Nothing wrong with the pattern.  It's lovely but I'm just not liking this project.  I just want to know what I can do with this yarn.

It is colourful and pretty!

I finished sock one of the Dark Isle. The heel went pretty quickly. I'm not sure when I'm going to get started on sock two but I'm not feeling an immense rush to finish then. It could be because I want to have my needles free for the next sock club shipment and I have no idea what size I'll need. This won't be an issue when the Dyak DPNs arrive...just a minimum of three more months to go.

I started making starter squares for the Blankie. I'll put up pics tomorrow.

There's really no excuse...sort of

It seems like close to the end of every month, there's a day I forget to update (or the app refused to upload anything). I came home last night and promptly fell asleep. That's how tired I was.

Today's late update is due to laziness. I knew I had an update I wanted to do. I even have pics to show but I picked up the Dark Isle socks, started watching Dancing with the Stars and then a new episode of Castle then an old episode of Castle while realizing that I could start on the afterthought heel. Progress is being made, slowly but it is coming along.

I got my glasses! My grandfather says it looks like me. My cousin B1 wants my frames...yea-no. The upcoming picture is probably the most I've shown my face on here.

On another note, it was B1's birthday yesterday. She's 17!

Feeling positive

I'm in Hamilton as per usual. I remembered to ask one of my friends about what it's like to live here from the financial view and it's looking very affordable to move here on my own once I save some money and get a job here. I'm really looking forward to the next year.

I still haven't finished the leg of the Dark Isle socks but I am the ribbing. The only thing left to do when that's done is the heel. I may or may not get this pair finished before its time for the next Cookie shipment.

I'm not even going to bother putting up a picture because in comparison, there really isn't much difference. I'm going to knit a few more rows before I go to sleep.

Am I trying to burn myself out?

You know when you work so quickly on a project, you feel like you're burning out? I'm sort of feeling that right now.

Unintentionally I have been working hard on the Dark Isle socks. I'm now on the leg and working my way up. The only reason the socks came out I the bag tonight was because I needed a picture of my progress for this blog. I'm sure I'll feel differently tomorrow but right now, I want to curl up in bed, watch Nathan Fillion on Castle and go to sleep.

I may have the leg finished by tomorrow night and then I have to do my first afterthought heel. I am nervous about that and I hope it turns out well.

After these socks are done, I don't think I'm going to knit anymore socks until I get my next shipment from Cookie. I think I'll work on the Blankie in the mean time.

Better late then never

You know when you get so distracted, you forget to do the things you have planned for the day, that you do everyday? Yeah, that just happened to me. I noticed 5 minutes ago, that I didn't update but considering blogger marks it's time by pacific, no one should notice the difference.

Today, I had planned to show what sock pattern I wanted to do with my gradient yarn but as I type this now, I remembered that I had mentioned this yesterday. So today, I will show a picture of the yarns selected to do it with. There's a good chance that I'll cast on sometime next week.

I'm finally on somewhat of a roll with the Ernie Socks so I suspect it won't take much longer to finish...phewf!
