WIP Wednesday, Thursday and probably Friday?

I finally washed the Lissajous stockings. I was worried how the yarn would turn out, especially after reading non-fan commentary regarding the Wollmeise yarn I had used. I was pleased that the yarn became much softer after washing. I did have to stitch up the seam in 2 places due to not weaving the ends in properly. But they do look pur-tee!

On to the Bex - I tried a sock on as I always do and it doesn't fit the way I want it to. The bottom of my calf seems to be to wide (darn stumpy legs). So the plan so far is to gift them to my best friend. Hopefully they can fit her better. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to try it on her first so no surprise for her.

I decided tonight to pick up the Anisette Cardi last night. I'm starting to enjoy the process again. Especially since the needles are not unscrewing :) I was so excited when I found the buttons. I got them off of Etsy from Shop4Craft in Singapore. I knew from the time I saw the pattern that I wanted wooden buttons with some kind of design on it and I'm pleased with my choice.

The real update on the Lissajous

As you can clearly see, the stockings are done.  This is my model shot of them (thank you B1 for remembering to take the picture of them for me).  I only have 1 issue with them and I only realized the problem when I wore the socks for an extended period of time...they fall and don't stay up on me.  Maybe my calf is smaller than I thought?  I dunno...Please ignore the other socks and slippers in the picture.

One completed project

The Lissajous stockings are finished. They are comfortably ensconcing my feet as I type. They still need to go through the wash.

I'm happy with the socks. Only a few changes I would want to make but they are quite minor and in no way will impede on my Lissajous love:

1) I wish I was able to use a solid colour but the stripping was an interesting addition. It's the discarding of the extra yarn that was annoying

2) Instead of switching colours every 4 rows, switching it every 8 instead would have been more ideal

3) Having the heel and toe match on the socks. Somehow going I managed to not get them the same and I didn't realize until I was half way down the foot

I have turned the heel and finished the gusset of sock 2 of 2 of the Lissajous Stockings. The heel flap did not take nearly as long as it did on the first sock. I am excited to get these done; not because I'm not enjoying working on them but because I want to wear them so badly. When they are done ill move onto the Bex socks and Annisette Cardi as my main projects.

I really should be in bed but...

I was under some crazy idea that I could actually finish my Lissajous stockings by Sunday. I don't know what kind of speed knitter I thought I was but I did manage to make decent progress on my right stocking. I'm almost finished the front diamond decal, which seemed to be a lot easier the second time around. Once that is done, then I worry about the calf shaping and I am almost half way through that as it is.

What kept me going tonight was the KnitPicks' podcast I was listening to (episodes 189-196). I now want to stash palette yarn for cardigans and that might be what I purchase for my Cyber Monday purchase. I only worry about that fact that the page says 'Hand wash' and 'feltable'. I don't like hand washing. I don't mind the delicate cycle and hanging out to dry though. I'm going to have to do a bit more research I guess.

Still Knitting

Progress on the Lissajous is coming along nicely. I'm pretty sure I can finish the left sock tonight. I have already started the right sick but I don't think I can finish it by the end of September but that doesn't mean I won't try. I still got a week and a few days.

I think I've decided to do the Kai-Mei's next in the Cascade Heritage in the colourway Teal next (especially since I was supposed to do them from back in April for my birthday).

PS, I really hate the fact that I can put the pictures in the order I want to via iPhone.

Lissajous progress

Other than a busted needle [broke a size 1US harmony wood dpn] all is well today. I think I’ve made it over 25% of a completed pair. Next goal for this sock, make it to the heel flap (hopefully by tomorrow or Wednesday). I am really pleased with the progress I'm making. I don't know if I'll finish it by the end of the month but I'm not giving up. In my mind, if I can get these done in a month, I have no excuse for a regular length pair of socks.

Lovely looking Lissajous progress

I have been knitting away for the past 3 days and I am liking the progress. I'm becoming well acquainted with the cables, traveling all over the place. The colour switching is coming along well but those ends will require quite a bit of weaving in. But on the upside, I'm looking forward to it because that will mean the socks are done :)

Thought I'd get more done in an hour

I really don't have much patience when it's something I want to do. As soon as midnight hit, and it was officially September, I started my Lissajous Stockings. I gave myself an hour before I went to sleep.

I casted on the stitches, which only seemed to take awhile due to it being 104 sts. I had "The History of Rome" podcast playing, and set to stop when my hour was up. Imagine my surprise when the podcast stopped and I was about 2/3 of the was across the front side of the first row.

The setup row with the charts at first seems difficult to follow but now that I've made it past that, I'm sure I'll be okay. I'm looking forward to continuing on Sunday morning instead of tomorrow. I promised my mom I'd help her with a wedding cake after church tomorrow.

What to work on now

I've finished the Wanida socks.  I can't start the Lissajous sock until Saturday at the earliest.  I already swatched for the Lissajous and the results were...meh regarding the needles.

I tried 3 sets of needles and I'm not too happy with the results.  The pattern calls for 1.5US needles of which I have quite a few sets of needles, and the gauge is supposed to be 12 rows by 8 sts.

1.5 Kollage gave me 11 x 7
1.5 ChiaoGoo gave me 11.5 x 7.5

So I decided to go down a size and that's when my selection is not what I want it to be.  I don't have any needles that small since I have never had to knit that small other than the set of Harmony Wood Needles I purchased from KnitPicks last year.  I gave the needles a try anyways, constantly feeling like they were going to snap in my hands.  The results? It gave me 12 by 8.  Seriously?

I don't want to use these needles.  I even went on Ravelry, hoping someone would say it's okay to use the 1.5s, or the ChiaoGoo's are close enough.  Unfortunately for me, it was recommended to use the Harmony Wood DPNs.  Once I heard that answer, I went to Grandma's Handknitting on Etsy and  ordered 1US/24" needles.  And now I cross my fingers that they show up either by the end of the week or Monday afternoon.  I'm willing to start with the 1s I already have but there is no way I'm going through a set of knee high socks with them and have the DPN's come out in tact.

So up until I can start the socks, I should continue working on my Anisette Cardi I started the end of June.  The back is already finished and I have started working on the front left (I think) side.

The cakes and the swatch

I started to cake the yarn for my Lissajous. I was aiming for 3 50g cakes per skein. I ended up with 5 mini skeins and 1 ball (that has already been confiscated by my Blankie). The total weight was supposed to be 150g and it weighed in without the label as 160g :) Sa-weet! I haven't finished caking the other skein yet but I am in the midst of working on it. Definitely be done either tomorrow or Wednesday.

I don't know if it's just me but I am not fond of doing straight knit stitched. The garter scarf I made was pure torture. This is also the main reason I don't like doing swatches. It's do tedious and boring.

I still did it because I wanted to see how the colours would look together, especially if I switched every 4 rows. Turns out that it looks okay. The stripping is very subtle and you probably wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it.

As for the whole measuring for gauge? Well I'm not home right now but I did pack up my knitting. And I brought everything except my tape measures.

I also have to find an effective way of changing the colours as I go. I'm getting a bit of bunching at the ends that I am no liking but I may not have that issue when I'm knitting in the round, instead of flat.

I only have a week!

Don't ask why but I decided to join a Knit-Along (KAL). It was calling my name! It said "Wollmeise yarn only" and "Cookie Sock!" and that last one is definitely a weakness! Seemed like a good idea since I had just worked out my details for my Lissajous. It would just be made earlier than planned.

And then someone informed me about the Sock KAL (SKAL) on the Sock Knitters Annonymous. They wanted red socks and I don't have red yarn and I wasn't going to buy any due to my self appointed diet! Or at least that's the message I put up in the forum. Then EARLY this morning, someone kindly informed me that I can do the mystery pattern instead with any colour I choose and still be eligible. Hand head and sigh. So I joined...but I ain't doing the beading part :(

There's no way I'll be able to manage 3 pairs of sock, 2 of which need to be finished by the end of September. Therefore, Wanidas? It's just you and me this week. I am already half way up the foot so it's just a matter of sitting down and doing it!

Houston? We got a problem!

I just got my 2nd skein of Wollmeise Twin in Nazar Boncugu. As soon as I opened the package I knew there was a problem. And the I saw the label "We're Different!" and my heart felt. I put it beside my first skein. They are not the same shade of blue. I just wish the person I bought from had told me so I could have gone looking for a skein that was not a "We're Different".

I'm going to have to alternate every few rows and have strippy Lissajous socks.
