Year of Projects: Week 19

Another week of knitting done and no finished projects but that's okay with me.

I cast on 2 new projects and they were the only things I worked on this week: the Meadowbrook scarf for my youngest brother Thaniel and the Circe socks for myself with the Anzula Squishy I got last week.

The Meadowbrook scarf is coming along well. And as per usual with a Stephen West pattern, I want to knit another one. I should launch a complaint. His patterns are addictive.

No more casting on until this scarf is finished and then, depending on the remaining time, I'll cast on for a matching hat.

I'm leaning towards the Piece Out hat by Stephen West (big surprise), in the same colours I'm using for the Meadowbrook.

Last week I mentioned how the sock knitting bug was starting to itch. So I went to Handknitting Yarn Shop, purchased a set of 1US DPNs and scratched that itch. I'm still working my way through the heel flap. I'm making these socks shorter than recommended due to my "need" of socks.

I got lucky this week. I am loving a skein of MissBabs Cosmic yarn in the Inkwell colourway. It's not a colour that is easily obtained since it's a custom colour for the sock club. No one from the club was destashing it either. So I sent an email to Cookie. Lucky for me, there were some leftover skeins and I'll be getting one of them with my December shipment. I am definitely making socks out of that skein...I just have to figure out which pattern.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I really need to stop casting on new projects...but it's so hard!

  4. That sock rocks so far. I've heard rave reviews about Miss Babs' yarn. I bought some for the first time at the last STITCHES for a gansey. I like the looks of that hat!

    1. I've been hearing about MissBabs since I found Ravelry. So far, I've been very satisfied with it. And the colourway is amazing :)

    1. You can start with one of the free patterns he has like Metalouse and see what happens after that. I still have yet to try it myself.

  6. If you ever discover the secret to not starting new things, do let me know!

I haven't looked at Stephen West stuff before I don't think, but I really like that button hat. Love the yarn colour on your socks...fab!

    1. I'm hoping that the want of finished projects will be greater than my desire to try a new pattern. If that happens more often than not, then I'll get on track.

Try out a free Stephen West pattern or go looking through the pattern list. That's what hooked me.

  7. I love your projects and don't be so hard on yourself. You do way more than "cast on"! LOL! You get them 1/2 to 3/4's done. The scarf is awesome and I love those colors. I would love to do one just like yours in those exact colors for my other son....no more bulky cables for me; my hands are sore! The hat is cool too....my sons wear that type of hat all winter. I need to check out this Stephen West guy!

    1. That's what gets annoying! I have a bunch of projects that are more than half way done. I get distracted by something new. I make it about half way through the project and get distracted again by something new. See my dilema?

Do check out some Stephen West patterns. Just keep in mind, most of them are paid patterns but I think it's worth it.

  8. Such a great scarf--and West IS an amazing designer--his patterns are so unique and distinctive. I don't think you are alone in the starting new things arena! I don't know a knitter who doesn't suffer from startitis. :)

    1. I completely agree with you! Although my problem is not startitis, it's not having the finishitis as well.

  9. You've got lots done on the scarf; I'm hoping you have time for the hat because it's awesome!
Love the beginnings of that sock!

    1. I think I'm just about 1/2 way through the the scarf and hopefully that means I have enough time to do the hat.

I'm really liking the beginning of the Circe socks. I'm already wanting to make another pair but full length...or maybe a knee high pair.

  10. But it's so easy to cast-on new projects!

That Inkwell color is amazing. I've yet to play with that yarn but I definitely don't want to part with it! Of course, my husband told me that I'd bought too much blue yarn (back in May for a project) because I got a skein of blue from the sock club. Husbands are silly like that though.

    Progress on everything looks great!

    1. Excuse me as I roll my eyes but you only have too much yarn when you can no longer get into your house due to too much yarn.

    2. Everyone (including non-knitters) roll their eyes at him. It's kind of cute. It's hilarious when a yarn shipment shows up at the house too!

    3. Have you ever done a large shippment at once, like for Cyber Monday? It would be amazing to see the look of shock for that one.

    4. I had a large shipment of indigodragonfly. I had it sent to work instead of the house so he wouldn't hold it hostage. I don't actually want to kill the man after all!

    5. I actually threw my head back and laughed at that one. Yes! You must do what you can to preserve your husband's life.

    6. Happy to oblige. :) There were like...39 skeins in that shipment. It was several months of yarn buying in one shipment and only half of it was for me, but yeah, that would have ended badly I think. He's too young to have a heart attack.

  11. I love the hat..I did one similar but in different colors..which was a fail...the colors just didn't work out..time to take another look at that pattern...That scarf is just in time for the cold..

  12. The scarf is looking great and the piece out hat will match great with it. Socks look good also and you can't have finished objects if you don't cast on, well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :)

  13. Yay for you getting that yarn! You definitely lucked out! I'm loving the scarf for your brother so far, the colors are great!

    1. Yay Me! I'm hoping it can become one of Miss Babs regular colours so I can order it again. I think it needs to be one of those colours that always needs to be in my stash, like that Framboise colour I was raving about.
