DAY TWENTY-TWO of NaNoWriMo: Going Places

Wow, it's been awhile but right now I feel as if I have so much to say.

I got distracted last week by A Very Potter Musical with Darren Criss,  Absolutely hilarious, great actors and the music is fun too.  Watch it, you know you want to :P

Anyways, despite the fact I'm behind, I have every intention of catching up all this week.  I've got 2 days off and since I managed to do 6k yesterday, I plan on doing at least another 6k words on my days off.  Hopefully, I'll also do some 4k days and 2k days until I'm finished.  I'm only at 19781 and I haven't done my writing for today as of yet but I will get on that as soon as I finish the update and select some writing music.

Also in all of this, I've already come up with an idea for next years NaNoWriMo, crazy as that sounds, I'm a whole 11 months ahead of schedule for that but I'm going to try and hold off on writing it until next November while still getting all of the info I need in order to get it done.

Off to write...

DAY EIGHTEEN of NaNoWriMo: New Discoveries

Yesterday I did the most writing I have ever done in one sitting of about 1 hr.  If you saw the previous entry, I had to cross out what I did and put in my new total.  Really excited about that progress and the story itself seems to be coming along well.

But I got to do some advertising.  While going around on the NaNoWriMo Forums, I saw something about getting those 50000 words and someone suggested a nifty program. available both for the web and for your desktop, called Write or Die.  I gave myself an hour to do 1000 words, and I did it in less than 45 minutes.  I would do it again today but it slipped my mind and I'm not feeling to good myself now.

I counted out the printed pages for my "novel" and it was 41-pages (and then I added another 8 pages from what I wrote last night).  It is a 12-point font (which seems normal on screen but it's huge in print in my opinion) and 1.5 spacing for editing later.

Word count for tonight: 13391.  Almost a thousand extra words but not quite.

DAY SEVENTEEN of NaNoWriMo: Still Behind but I don't care

I have almost come to the conclusion that it is very unlikely that I will reach to 50,000 words by the end of this month but that's okay.  Today as of the time I am writing this, I have reached (hold on let me check my total)
10,178 12,461
I am absolutely thrilled that I have made it this far and I hope to do a lot more.  I am in the middle of Chapter 5, well more like the beginning because this chapter is supposed to be a long, really long message left as a warning for my main character, Taylor Bellamy, from her dead lover David Pillar who's also a ridiculously strong precog.  I can ramble as long as I want to for this part, I love it but this chapter will be soooooo long :D

Anyways, back to my writing.

DAY FOURTEEN of NaNoWriMo: Making Progress

Alright, so I missed a bunch of days of updating this journal, but I also hadn't written anything for like three days.  Today, however I had nothing major planned but to sit at my computer and work at my novel and now I am almost at 10,000 words (I'm shy by 103 I think which I will probably work on later tonight).  Completed  three chapters in total and I'm working on the fourth.

My grandfather thinks I have a computer addiction like a drug addict.  I actually had to sit down and explain to him what I was doing for this month especially today since no one else was home and no one was asking me for anything or to do anything.

I also had a bit of time wasting (more like hours) playing the Sims 3.  And just because David who is not my main character needed a cross tattoo, I went to the store and bought Ambitions.  I added in some slider hacks and then went about improving my David Pillar and Taylor Bellamy, snapping pictures as I went...or so I thought.  I ended up with one picture of the new improved Taylor and nothing new of David.  So here's Taylor:

And Taylor on her trip to China

Plans for tonight, backup my novel, turning off the computer, do some housework and continue by hand later on tonight.

DAY TEN of NaNoWriMo: No somewhat witty title today

Nothing done today.  Being frank and honest.  Not well, although last night my mc's parents were introduced.  Dad's a chronic joker, rarely takes anything seriously, almost the exact opposite of his daughter.  His wife (and the mc's mother) is definitely there to balance the couple out.  I think I may do some character development tonight before I go to bed to see exactly where these two stand in relation to their daughter and the rest of the family.

I didn't do a drabble today because I didn't even look at my phone where the tweets come from until I woke up much later than expected.  Honestly, I haven't thought or done anything about writing at all today.

So I'm off for the night!

Tuesday 9 November 2010

DAY NINE of NaNoWriMo: Encouragement?

Anyways, I printed out part 1 of Chapter 2, which worked out to be about 6 pages at 1.5 spacing (trying to leave room for editing later).  I came home, I wrote for 45 minutes and now I'm tired.  I've made it to 5075 words in total [let's see 1667 x 9 days is 15003...1/3 of the way to today's goal].  I wonder if I can do about 2000 a day and make it up?  That's almost where I was at today but at least the story feels like it's making progress.

I got an email from some one named Aimee at NaNoWriMo, and I actually ended up printing it up, putting it in the binder with my story, and enjoying the read.  It really is encouraging.  All about letting your mind be free and follow the tangents since you never know where they lead and it may end up being more interesting than setting out the path that you so rigidly laid out.

I'm done for the day, at least on the computer...wow I think this is the shortest entry.

Note:  I put up a drabble I did maybe last week Thursday here: Drabble #021.  It has absolutely nothing to do with the story I'm writing but this is one of my favorite couples from a saga I started when I was 14.  Now those original stories are something that need work.

Drabble #021

Prompt from Twitter (@NaNoWordSprints) - I can't remember exactly what it was but it was something about a tempting dessert of some sort.
Universe: Chronicles
Characters: Cheslea S., Alexis W.

“Delicious,” purred Chelsea as she looked her spoon.
Alexis tried to keep his breathing as even as possible. He was sure she was tempting him with what he couldn’t have and it had nothing to do with the dessert on her spoon. Seeing her lithe tongue flicking out of her moth tasting the next spoonful was torture. He never knew why he put himself through taking her out to her favourite dessert joint but he could never deny her anything. She wanted to go to Audrey’s Café, Alexis would take her Audrey’s Café and allow himself to fantasize and suffer all in one go.
   “Want some?”
Alexis looked up from his fingers, not even seeing them and looked up into Chelsea’s eyes; pale brown. He could swear he saw mirth in her pale brown eyes.
A spoon approached his lips and he could feel the cool air drifting of of it but he felt anything but cold.
   “It’s your favourite,” she sing-songed.
Alexis almost went cross-eyed looking at the spoon right in front of his mouth. If he opened his mouth and allowed her to put the spoon in his mouth, he would never be able to let her go. To hell with her boyfriend and his commitment issues. To hell with a relationship she’s been in for over 10 years. If he took that spoon in his mouth, all bets were off. No more hedging, no more lying, no more avoiding. Alexis Walters would go after exactly what he wanted and wanted for over 10 years.
Alexis’ lips began to part for the cold confectionary when Chelsea’s phone rang.
Alexis was crestfallen. He lifted his hand, took the spoon from Chelsea and put it in his mouth himself.
He hated that ringtone. It made her face light up. It put a smirk on her face. It distracted her to the point that she didn’t even realize that he had taken the spoon out of her hand.
Alexis couldn’t get involved no matter how much he wanted to. It was never in his nature to fight dirty. Hearing that ringtone made her happy and Alexis would do anything for her happiness.
She hit talk on her phone and with a smile she answered “Hey Casey.” She giggled and then said, “I love you too baby.” And Alexis felt his heart breaking just that little bit more.

DAY EIGHT of NaNoWriMo: I think I forgot to do something this weekend

So me and my update schedule for this has apparently been changed.  I had planned to do one every day and somehow (umm...distractions) I didn't find the time to update over the weekend (or barely write anything as well).

My word count is still not where I want it to be but since I did add 1000 words in less than 24 hrs, I am somewhat pleased with my progress.  My main character is not exactly being portrayed as well as I'd like her to be but with the joys of first draft, I can edit her to my content after this month is over.

I managed not to play TS2 since I started this challenge however, I did do a bit of TS3, just because I want a picture of what my main character could look like and I think I can achieve it better in TS3 than TS2 (besides, with TS2, I'd get way too distracted and start playing my neighbourhood and absolutely no work would be done)

So meet the happy couple, David Pillar and Taylor Bellamy.

They are very much works in progress.  I downloaded sliders after I created them and have already adjusted David more to my liking but I didn't take any pictures.  Taylor's no where close to done.  I'm having a hard time adjusting to the sliders in TS3 for females.

Anyways, word count is over 3000, maybe about half way through chapter 2 and I'm still working on my outline for the future chapters.  Not giving up and still gonna keep on working

DAY FIVE of NaNoWriMo: Write What?

On my twitter, I joined NaNoWriMoSprints and actually participated (prompt about dessert and decadence). Loved it.  My best friend loved when I showed it to her.  And it has absolutely nothing to do with my novel.

I still haven't added anything more than 153 words to my previous total.  Last night was really busy with domesticity and today was work, bus traveling (which is not conducive to writing at all), visiting my other family (3 younger siblings who always want your attention), an hour car ride (again, not conducive to writing), choir practice and catching up with my best friend (after chasing her off her own computer to type up this entry before midnight (I'm just a stickler like that).

Nothing all that new to write and I'm off!  Hopefully more will get done over the weekend since I have a ton to make up for.

DAY FOUR of NaNoWriMo: Realizing I'm late on the outline

I didn't do as much writing today but that's okay.  Since I changed the story I was writing about like the night before I started, the only outline I had was in my head.  And since I finished the first chapter (YAY me yet again), I started to see where things were going to go  in a way that makes sense.  So I have made FIRE!!! No, really I’m starting to figure out what goes where and in which chapter.  I’m writing down little character quirks.  I still have to figure out how to do everything in LSB with the outlines.  That the next thing I’m off to do now.

I wrote a bit more, didn't type any up so I have no word count but my mind is spinning with ideas and I'm actually busy doing other things at home like cooking, cleaning and baking cookies...for some strange reason I'm feeling especially domestic.  I always say roll with it while the feeling is there since I very rarely ever want to do it in the first place.

I do have a few links I wanted to share for anyone who needs help using Liquid Story Binder (really it's a resource post for me...shh! don't tell)

Off to go clean now and hopefully write a bit before I go to bed.

DAY THREE of NaNoWriMo: A Small Feeling of Accomplishment

So last night, while partially watching "Dancing with the Stars", I started to write.  I didn't make it too far, a few more pages in my notebook that when I typed it into LSB, I made it to 1160 words!  Yay!  I made it to my 1000 word goal of the first chapter.  Now I need to progress it to the second part.  I got lots of little sticky notes with personality descriptions like David's tattoo and his personality.  I tempted to pull create a sim of him in TS2, and then again in TS3 just so I really have a picture of him.  I'm just missing the expansion pack that does the tattoos for TS3 (and then I just got distracted and went looking for David's Cross Tattoo - Celtic Design like these but I'm really leaning towards the bottom left one).

I'm still drastically behind but I'm not going to give up just yet however, I may need to reassess my final goal.  I know I could get a lot more words if I actually had the opportunity to go back and edit what I have done to add in my description...or possible bright idea!  Use what I've got as a general outline, meaning write the first chapter without as much dialogue and use it as a rough outline and then go back and fill in the spaces of a lot of missing description.  I've noticed with a lot of my writing when I read it back to myself, I don't describe much even though I have a vivid picture of the person, the location, the scene and the emotion in my head.  Maybe I'm trying to get too much out before I forget it that I leave out all these other things that I want to say.  Maybe I need to revamp the rules regarding editing a bit and give myself certain limits like I can only add in more and not take out and I only have a limited amount of time to make those edits within like 30 minutes or maybe once a week on like Sunday for a couple hours when I have no work or other events to deal with.  And maybe I should stop using the word maybe so much in this entry.

I think I'm liking the third option might work best for me.  Gonna try typing instead of hand writing because my right hand feels like it's starting to cramp a lot sooner than it used to.

BTW, the tattoo design obviously is not my own, found it through google images from a site called Wicked Tattoo Designs!

Tuesday 2 November 2010

DAY TWO of NaNoWriMo: Dealing with Distractions

Apparently, I don't write as much as I think I do.  Yesterday, I finished with 744 words....at this rate, it'll take me a good few months to reach goal.  And today, I haven't even started yet!

Last night, I got sick.  Kept waking up like every hour.  Called into work and used a sick day.  You would think since I have so much more freetime on my hand that I could use it to write.  Nope, didn't happen although I did watch "What Not To Wear" on TLC, went on the computer to do an entry on my journal and ended up playing Collapse on Facebook and for some strange reason, the storyline that's been going around my head for the past 3 or so weeks suddenly decides to shut up.  Not good at all.

I don't have constant access to a computer like I would prefer (one computer to 7 people in the house? not happening).  So I've been doing everything by hand and then typing it on the computer once or twice a day.  My family also doesn't seem to get the concept of "trying to get some me time" either.  I tried to write at the dinner table (no desk in my room) and my mother decides to get me to start inputting phone numbers on the phone.  I love my mom dearly but she is so technologically impaired, it's ridiculous.  If I could get all the info from her at one time, it could have been a one time thing and go back to my writing.  She'd tell me the name of the person, give me the area code and then go off and have a conversation on the phone while I'm standing there like "Can we just get this over yet?"  People kept stopping me asking "What are you doing?".  This happened at work, at home, at the local pizza place...or they think I'm doing homework.  If I was really doing homework, would you really ask me every single time "Are you doing homework?"  Homework is not the only reason people write you know!.

So, I'm gonna take this opportunity, since I am at home and have no tv shows that I feel like I desperately need to watch until 8 o'clock, pull out a pen and paper and write.  Headphones in, everyone else out!

DAY ONE of NaNoWriMo: Giving it a shot

First post that is not a drabble in this journal. Most of these ones here are from JulNoWriMo which I failed at miserably but I got good ideas and prompts from

I wasn't actually planning on starting to write until just about now, 5:30pm on the first of November.  However, by 9:00 this morning, while on my break from work, I pulled out my note pad and started writing the first chapter of my novel.  So far it's sweet.  I want to go back and start editing what I wrote but according to the rules (and the advice I have received to get this thing done), I can't edit until next month when it's some kind of editing month.  It will be so tempting BUT I've compromised with myself and allowed myself post-its with quick notes so I remember what "great" and "astounding" idea I had at the time and hopefully keep the idea to make this novel better.

While doing this, I'm also making use of Liquid Binder (how it's still active even though it's been well over the free month I will never know) for this challenge.  But maybe I should keep a backup in rtf/doc format just in case.

50,000 words is a lot but so far I have made it over 300!  YAY Me.  I've seen it written that that works about to about 175 pages, typed I believe and sinceI generally prefer to do long hand, that gonna be a lot of paper.  And then typing it up little by little?  Feels like it's gonna take forever.  Sigh!  As time goes on for the month and I reach to about 5-10 pages, I'll start printing it out as a hard copy for myself and put it aside for editing.  Maybe then I'll feel like I'm making progress and it will urge me to continue,

So the basic history of this writing.

The Tentative Title: Last Weekend (it will definetly span more than a weekend, maybe around a year in this character life)
Main Character: Taylor Bellamy, 3+ generation witch (as of yet a type of my own creation, not following Wicca)
Location: Somewhat real world based, dealing in present-ish time.
This is actually an offshoot of a previous generation story (Circle of Five) that I started many years ago (and I was going to continue for this NaNoWriMo but changed my mind as of last night).  Taylor is from the Circle of Seven, possibly 2 of 7 and if I ever decided to continue writing about the others in her circle, than the name of this little novel will be changing (another tentative title: The Second of Seven)
So, off to go find my comfy place in my house, plug in my head phones, pull out the pen and paper and get to writing.

Standing

«Okay, that was subtle» thought Davis as he moved his pawn across the board. His father, Alan, pondered Davis’ move before removing the white pawn via his black bishop. “Well you are 32 years old, living at home, moved in your wife, had your children and have never worked a day in your life.”
“But dad, do I really have to? Grandma Kelly left us a ton of money, plus that massive house in Fuller’s Isle. They royalties from mom’s album are ridiculous. The money made from your game tours and your sci-fi paintings is astounding.”
“And you feel no shame in not actually being able to financially support your family?”
“They’re taken care of,” defended Davis.
“-By your mother and I. I wish I knew a way change your work ethic.”
“But why does it bother so much?”
“Your mother babies you,” complained Alan. “She should have sent you out on your own. You could have only benefited from the experience.”
“And what do you expect me to do?”
“Get a job, put your natural skills to good use. You can work for a company or start your own?
“You want me, with no college or university education and no marketable skills to start a corporation?”
“Are you crazy? I wouldn’t invest in that. I’m talking about opening a shop or something like that.”
“Selling what?”
“You’re smarter than you give yourself credit for son. You’re also pretty handy with a sewing machine. There nothing wrong with working in the clothing industry. By the way Davis, checkmate!”
“What!” cried Davis. “I didn’t even see that coming.”
“There’s a lot of things you don’t see son. Did you hear how they may be repealing the generational letter law?”
“So you mean I don’t have to give my child a name that starts with D? Thought it was a dumb law to begin with.”
“Maybe I should have used the word ‘amend’. Mayor Devlin says that despite it being a long standing Winchester Isle tradition, dating all the way back to with Founder’s Isle and starting with Adam and Annie Winchester-” Alan paused to take a breath. “According to the newspaper, Mayor Devlin is going to have it so that it would be either the 1st or 2nd name would have to follow the Generational Letter Law.”
Alan pushed back the chair from the chess table and sighed heavily. “Alright son. I’ve come to the conclusion I am just not as young as I used to be. I’m heading off to bed. Good-night.”
“Good-night dad,” said Davis, watching his father walking to the bedroom he shared with Laurel.

Davis couldn’t take it anymore. His father’s words were starting to affect his thought process.
Kana had previously lost her job at the local newspaper and as a soon as Davis and his mother, Laurel, found out that she was pregnant, they told her no to rush back to work.
Davis did not like this new feeling. Kana had gone out to find work when he stayed at home, doing whatever struck his fancy.
«Dad’s right» thought Davis sighing.
“Daddy?” Davis saw his little girl Rachael. He wouldn’t like it if Rachael ended up with someone who wouldn’t work to support his daughter.
“DADDY!”
“Yes Rach?”
“You weren’t listening to me.” Davis looked at her with a smile, remembering when she was still a baby.
“I’m listening now.”
“You know how the new basketball court opened down the street? I was wonder if I could go…”
“Rachael-“
“You can come too!” interrupted Rachael before he could object.
“You want to go out in public with me?” asked Davis with a chuckle.
“Daddy! Who else am I supposed to go play basketball with? Besides you’re still kinda cool.” Davis loved her smile. It was just like her mother’s.
“I’m still cool? Really? A practically teenager thinks I’m cool.”
“I said ‘kinda’ cool. There’s still a difference.”
“Go put out some shorts so we can enjoy the little remaining heat of the fall. Meet you back down in 20 minutes.”

“Daddy, look at her.”
“Rachael, don’t make fun of people,” he said not looking where she was pointing. “That’s not- What the heck are they wearing to a basketball court.”
Sybil Kirby apparently ventured down from the Farmer’s District, looking like she was auditioning for Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”. But who surprised Davis even more was Dylan Pullen in a men’s «assuming» figure skating outfit, rhinestones and all.
Davis assumed a bet had occurred and Dylan lost. Either that or he was trying out for the men’s figure skating competition at the basketball court.
Davis shook his head with a chuckle. “Doesn’t change anything Rachael, still don’t make fun of people.” He spied the photo booth right beside the hot dog stand and checked his pockets for his anti-bacterial sanitizer. Sure enough, it was there.
“Let’s go take a picture to commemorate this daddy-daughter outing.”
“I’m not going in there. It’s filthy!” Rachael tried to walk to the basketball courts but her father reached out and held her firmly on the shoulder.
“I have sanitizer and I’m prepared to wipe everything down.” Davis pulled out the sanitizer as proof. Rachael sighed but nodded. She hated photo booths. Something about them just seemed dirty, especially in such public places.
She waited outside while she hoped her dad was cleaning everything meticulously. The new busker showed off her pop and locks moves and was offering lessons for a fee. «Maybe Daddy would like that»
“Rachael, it’s clean.” Rachael gathered her nerves and ventured into the cramped photo booth.
“I know you’re getting to be a big girl.”
“Dad, I’m 10.”
“I know but there’s only one seat. Just sit on my lap and we’ll take the picture.” Rachael’s nose wrinkled in disgust. «At least I’m not on the chair»
“And no frowning in the picture.” Rachael sighed heavily. “None of that,” said Davis as he proceeded to tickle his princess. As the laughter bubbled out of her mouth, the flash went off.

At Rachael’s suggestion, Davis watched the busker show off her pop and lock moves. «That doesn’t look so hard» Davis got her attention when he waved money in her face for lessons.

«Ok, so that was more difficult than I thought»
Rachael was cheering for him when he finally got the moves down.
“Show her your skills daddy! The fire one.”
Davis lit both ends of the baton and proceeded to show the husker a thing or two. He was also quite surprised he even got some spectators.  He finished off his routine with a flourish and applause. Rachael smiled at her father.
“Come-on kiddo, let’s go home.”
“Daddy, you know how Mrs. Thayer took us on a walking tour of Upper Winchester? I saw this nice house that I think can be a shop If we could do some remodeling. Maybe you could sell some of the extra stuff you make. And then people would buy them like crazy and we’d be rich!”
“Rachael, we’re already rich.”
“But we could always be richer,” she said with a grin as she walked home hand in hand with her father, eyes alight with pleasure.

angry avoidance

“Incompetent newspaper boy...Man...Whatever! He’s certainly too old to be having a job like this. And he still can't keep the newspaper out of my flowers. Aargh!”
Carrie picked up her newspaper, glaring at the back of Seth McArthur as he walked over to the next house to repeat the same process.
“And don’t think I’m not going to report you behavior to your boss! I want a different person delivering my newspaper from now on!” she yelled. Carrie slammed the front door and went into her kitchen to eat her breakfast of a toaster pastry as she went over yesterday’s news.
«Beautifying Lower Winchester? What the hell for? Probably only because the mayoral house is there. The Cottage District needs love too ya know!»
Carrie knew she was over-reacting. She had been angry at everyone lately. Not that Carrie was generally a happy person but snapping at the paper...man and yelling down the street an angry fishwife was a bit much. She really needed to de-stress.
She could imagine could imagine it now, He would be just finished making her favorite breakfast, cheese omelettes with some mushrooms and peppers and would be walking over to her quaint breakfast booth in the nothing but an old pair of pyjama pants with his university logo printed on the leg and a tea cloth draped over his left shoulder. She watched his barefeet walk across the linoleum tile as he approached her, gently placing her omelette in front of her with a smile and cleaning the plate edge with the tea cloth. She would look up at him and smile, admiring his beautiful brown eyes and red hair and hands wonderful hands as his fingers curled around hers. “You better enjoy your breakfast,” he would murmer. “Cause the only way you’d get me to make you a meal is in your dreams.”
Carrie snapped out of her dreamlike state and looked down at her toaster pastry in disgust.
“Who am I kidding? All I really want to have is an omelette.” Carrie carried the offensive plate to the garbage. “And Alvin to serve it to me.”

Business was slow in the early afternoon. No one really felt the need to buy a desk or dinner table at 1:30 in the afternoon. Carrie leaned back on the counter with the cash register, looking at the people walking by; some on their way out for coffee, some heading to the salon, some heading to the wedding dress shop nearby.
Carrie sighed. She knew one of the reasons customers were not in the store was because of her attitude. It didn't take much convincing for her to realize that one of the only reasons she had customers was due to no one else selling her products.
«What would I give for some entertainment»
This time it was a blue oxford button up shirt and dark blue jeans. She was powerless to stop him as he picked her up and placed her on the counter. She admired his physical strength. She was far from a small woman. And yet in his hands, she seemed as a light as a feather.
He spread her thighs and stood between them. One hand gently touched her cheeks as he pulled her head towards his. Carrie’s lips parted adn her eyes slowly closed.
Carrie’s day dream was rudely interrupted by the man starring in her fantasies; except the real thing was far too argumentative and talked entirely too much.
“Why are you here?” she asked angrily, knowing she was blushing and cursing her pale skin. The look he gave her was heated and that grin irritated beyond belief.
“What kind of crack-pot customer service is that?” He propped himself on the counter from her fantasy. Carrie scowled at him.
“Are you actually here to purchase something? No? I didn’t think so. Besides, how many desks and dinner tables does one person really need.” Carrie started to feel some of her nervousness going away. She could argue with him any day of the week, for hours on end. She suspected he enjoyed their almost daily tete-a-tetes. She took a bold step forward, invading his personal space. “Why are you here?” She didn’t know where the huskiness in her voice came from. She stared up at him, arms crossed across her chest, eyes blazing in defiance. “Why do you feel the need to invade my personal space?”
She saw his gaze drop to her lips as she licked them nervously. His lips looked like they were getting closer. Her heartbeat was erratic.
The bell over the door jingled and out of the corner of her eye, Carrie saw two customers come in.
She backed away and then around him, putting on a smile.
“How may I help you?” she asked brightly as she could manage.

it's all fun and games, until someone looses an eye...

I never understood why she felt the need to come in an through the backdoor. But I always leave it open for her. She says she doesn’t need everyone to know her business. I always retort “It’s 11 o’clock at night in a farming area. Who’s going to be up to see you anyways?”

There was never much talking. Neither of us were there for conversation. What was the point when we were only interested in a bit of fun. SHe had a wicked imagination. The tings she could with her hands were amazing.

Sometimes it was fast, at other times, tantalizingly slow. We had a good few months together and as far as I knew, neither of us were looking for anyone new for now.

And then she called and cancelled on me three times in a row. After a month, she shows up at the farm.

“I went to see Dr. Pearson this morning,” said said nervously. She had never been nervous around me. “It’s probably not what you want or need to hear but I’m going to tell you anways.”

She looked up at me, with an unwavering brown gaze.

“I’m pregnant.”

Drabble #018

3:10-3:40
Universe: Sutton (extended)
Characters: Nayshun (3rd)(Breanna's stepson)
Title: Fade Into the Background

Nayshun didn't know why he let his parents drag him to this. It was one of the hardest things he ever had to do.
Watch the girl he loved go off and get married to someone else. He knew he wasn't really wanted here by the bride and groom but to save face, a invitation had been issued to Nayshun and he attended at his parents behest.
There were only 2 things Nayshun wanted to do: 1) grab Mari and run away with her or 2) leave the wedding he didn't want to attend and get as drunk as possible. Neither of those were an option without his parents getting severely upset with him.

The wedding march began, the backdoors swung open and the wedding guests all stood, facing the doors.

Mari stood there on her father's arm, smiling up at him. She turned her attention to the inside of the chapel.
As her eyes quickly scanned the guests who had come, she paused and looked a bit longer at Nayshun, not quite believing he had the gall to attend the wedding. She saw that smug smile she hated so much on his face. She raised an eyebrow in challenge, turned her attention back to the aisle, where her soon to be husband, Adrian, was waiting for her. Her smile returned brightly as she proceeded to walk down the aisle.

Nayshun had hoped for one last chance to change her mind but realized he was too late. Mari repeated her vows with such conviction that it felt like she was killing him with every word she spoke.

---

Nayshun had made a new best friend. Her name was Tonja and she was the bartender. She kept the drinks flowing and Nayshun kept ordering more. She had even promised to visit his hotel room to 'visit' him after she was finished at this reception.

Drabble #016

6:15-6:45, 9:05-9:15, 9:45-9:55
Universe: C5
Characters: Rosie Bellamy

They never really needed me before but I know they'll need me now. And it has nothing to do with my 'doppelganger'.

I started out as the weak one. I had no active powers (heck I would have been happy with passive powers). I had begun to think I was thrown out of a turnip truck. Grandpa always told me that I was still one of them and to just be patient.

I was inherently magical so I learned to be magical in other ways. I learned how to adapt and create spells. I studied about her plants and other ingredients for potions. I provided additional back-up and defence with charms. I was a walking, talking encyclopedia. All to give my family an advantage in battle.

I tried not to envy my cousins and siblings but it was so hard. Simple things like my big brother making me a snowcone when the freezer went out, Connell reheating my soup when I was sick, Zoe cheating at any game it was possible to cheat at and Lianne just being Lianne.

And then the biggest betrayal was when Grandpa Bellamy died, leaving me a letter and a power I could barely control. The letter wasn't even that clear. I was some kind of power absorber. Of course to a person who thought they had no powers being given an almost limitless power it's absolutely amazing. And then I found out how I get the ability. Some with an ability has to die in my presence. Well guess what, Grandpa had to die for me to get his. No power is worth that.

I couldn't stay after his death. I had to get away as far and as fast as I could. With some cash in my pocket and whatever personal I'd I had, I scrawled a quick note to my family and ran.

Drabble #014

Universe: Winchester
Characters: Drake Thayer and Moonunit (Moon) Zappa

"You really suck at pool," said Moon, as he watched Drake's cue completely miss the ball.
"Well you're not too good either," said Drake to his brother in law.
"You're the one with the pool table."
"That I just got last week," Drake replied. "How do you keep up the lovey-dovey stuff at home with Christina. I just don't get it."
"Christina and the kids are home life," explained Moon, watching Drake attempt another shot. "Outside of the house is a completely different story. To keep Chrissy happy, I lay it on thick,, the serenading, the affectionate kissy faces and eskimo kisses crap. That way she doesn't concern herself with my life outside of the home. My shot!". Moon went up to the table.
"I dunno. I think Cathy is starting to suspect."
"You've only done it like what? Twice?"
"With the same woman and we've had some pretty heated make-out sessions around the back Winch Bank," explained Drake.
"Yeah, but let's be honest, those Winchester girls did not come pretty and if Dingo wasn't my kid, I wouldn't be married to her anyways. You know these Winchesters are traditionalists. Dingo's official last name is Winchester because Chrissy and I weren't married yet."
"I think Cathy is beautiful," said Drake.
"In the eye of the beholder," muttered Moon. "I mean seriously, let's take Cathy's 'beautifu' and put against Tiffany's 'friggin gorgeous'."
Drake knew he had a lot of thinking to do. «What do I really want?»

Drabble #015

3:20-4:00
Universe: C5
Characters: Zoe Bellamy
"Fake it til you make it"

It was so hard to change everything back to the way it was. Zoe had spent so much time 'faking it' that these characteristics seemed to be ingrained in her personality. Everyone around her thought that she was responsible, intelligent, sensible woman. Zoe wasn't guessing these opinions. She could sense it whenever they were near.

This was how she had always lived her life. When she didn't know how to behave, she'd scan the mind of someone who did know and adjusted her behaviour to what was expected. She didn't know the answer from a class, she's scan the mind of the person teaching the class and come out looking like a genius.

If the situation were the same, she'd have no issues now. The problem was that Zoe had intrinsically changed. She finally learned to trust is her telepathy since she had been proven right.

Her other problem was now she found she could no longer reach everyone's mind. Zoe was unsure if it had been because she was not as careful as she should have been or if Rosie's mind was just stronger. Zoe didn't know how exactly she should behave around this Rosie.

The time apart and power change had changed the dynamics of the relationship. Zoe was used to the being the strongest in her family and she was only surpassed by Rosie in the practical magics such as charms, spells and potions. Now Zoe was the weaker one. In all fairness, Rosie had an unfair advantage. Being a power collector was rare and late blooming ability.

All Zoe had to do was go up to the attic and talk to Rosie

Drabble #008

Universe: Chronicles
Characters: Thai and ??? (female from Hamilton church temp name of Dee)

Dee sat at the table, unsmiling, staring at Thai.
"Not even a smile Dee?" he asked.
"I can't even believe I'm gonna do this is the first place," she said.
"Not that I'm not happy about getting a 2nd chance but can you not look like this is a death sentence?" asked Thai. "It's really depressing."
"You think I'm going to make this easy for you? Think again. You have a lot to make up for. You're really going to have to work hard to earn my trust again. And you still have even more hoops to jump through."
"Offer a guy some hope here," said Thai. "I'm sorry! How many times do I have to apologise?"
"Show me you really mean it," said Dee. "Show me that you are really serious about a relationship with me. Show me that what I want is possible with you. No playing around this time. If you want to leave, just tell me. Don't run off, not tell anyone where to find you and make me have to deal with Allison."
"I am serious and I want to be committed to you."
"I need to be shown, I don't just want the empty words."

Drabble #010

Universe: WI
Characters: Garret Kirby-Devlin, Jake Devlin, Carmela Kirby

"Do I have to wear this stupid tie Jake?" asked Garret, fidgeting with the blue and black stripped tie around your neck.
"You're lucky I'm allowing you to wear jeans. When I was your age, I couldn't even wear jeans to school," said Jake as he adjusted Garret's tie and collar.
"We're just going to see my mom," complained Garrett. "I could come over in my pyjamas and she'd still be happy to see me."
"Just humour me and wear the tie," said Jake. Garrett sighed loudly and starred at his slumped reflection in the front mirror.
"Forgot to tell you that Ms. Francois called you," said Garrett. He saw the grin Jake was trying to hide.
Ever since Jake had taken him to get a hair cut, Garrett noticed that Jake has had that stupid grin on his face whenever he and Ms. Francois talked.
"Liz called? I'll call her back after we come back from dinner with your mom," said Jake.
"Or you could call her now and 'Liz' will know that pass on phone messages," said Garrett with a grin.
"Grab you coat and let's go," said Jake before he called for his driver to take both Garrett and him from Lower Winchester through Upper Winchester to the Farmer's District, stopping at Kirby Farms where Garrett grew up.
Garrett looked up at Jake and gave him a hug.
"Thanks dad," he said with a small smile, trying to accustom himself to calling Jake by that title.

Drabble #007

Universe: Chronicles
Characters: Chelsea, Casey, Alexis

Chelsea turned her head towards her blaring cell phone and was certain that she had put it on vibrate the night before.
"Hello?" said Chelsea half asleep.
"Are you okay?" Chelsea immediately realised it was Alexis on the other line.
"Still asleep," she said.
"It's 1 o'clock in the afternoon!" said Alexis. "Why are you still asleep?"
"I don't know. I'm just tired," she said. "What's up?"
"Nothing, just checking up on you," said Alexis.
"You haven't done that since you got mad at me."
"I wasn't mad at you," said Alexis. "Frustrated but not mad."
"Same difference," said Chelsea. "I am ravenous. Wanna go for a late lunch?"
"I would need to know where you are in first place. I had called for you originally at your mom's house and she said you hadn't been home all night."
"Don't worry, I'm safe. You can pick me up at Casey's."
"Should you really be staying over night at his house? You know the whole 'living with a man' thing, the 'no sex before marriage' thing."
"Nothing is happening, Alexis. I just got tired and fell asleep," said Chelsea. "I'm getting up. Call me when you reach here."
"Fine," said Alexis with a growl and hung up the phone.
Chelsea stared at her cell as she saw the disconnected sign flash on her phone. "What's up with him?" she asked.

Drabble #004

Universe: Chronicles
Characters: primarily Neil Summers and Pastor Alexis Walters
Idea:
Neil finished filling up his cup of juice to accompany his plate of lunch from the weekly lunch buffet. He quickly located his friend and Pastor, Alexis Walters sitting with Chelsea Sutton, Linden and his wife Callie, and Neil's little sister Mona. He made his way to the table, always stopping to say 'hi'.
"Pastor," said Neil. Alexis up at Neil oddly. "Can I talk to you privately?"
"Sure, umm, let's go to my office," said Alexis uncertainly. He had only been a pastor officially for a month and was still adjusting to the title and the responsibilities that went along with it.
=^=
Alexis balanced his plate in one hand while fumbling to find the proper key for his office.
"Come-in," said Alexis as he opened the door and flipped on the light. "Is this a social thing or an official thing?"
"What difference would that make?" asked Neil.
"It tells me what side of the desk I should sit on."
"Sit at your desk," said Neil. "As a pastor you always need to give the perception of authority in your own office, even if the other person is an old friend."
Alexis sat down behind his desk. "What can I help you with?"
"Figuring out what to do next," said Neil. "I know that based on what I tell you, you'll have to tell the board."
"What happened?" asked Alexis.
"Adultery, living with a woman, considering marrying the woman who's not a christian..."
"Wait a minute. The only other person I could consider you marrying is Judy," said Alexis as he finally understood what Neil was telling him. "Does Chelsea know?"
"The two of them are as thick as thieves and they tell each other everything."
"Chelsea is on the board and if she were aware of this situation beforehand and didn't inform the board she be in for a world of trouble," said Alexis.
"You have a better chance of getting that kind of info than me," said Neil. "I could technically sweep the entire thing under the rug as long as either I or Judy and Abby move out but she needs the help and she trusts me. Besides, what kind of friend would I be if I didn't help her? I guess this is more of a request to be suspended of my membership than anything else. I have no intention of having sex with her again, unless we get married. We'll be purely platonic."
"At the very least, be honest with yourself," said Alexis. "I know this is not a Christian-like response but I have watched the 2 of you dance around each other since you were teenagers. I saw how upset you were when she introduced Asif as her fiance. And frankly, you settled for Danielle. Your heart was never there in the first place. How you made it to 2 years is beyond me. So if you're not going to be honest with me than at least be honest with yourself and with God. Don't tell me the two of you will just be platonic. I know what your going through. I go through the same problems with Chelsea and I know if it were Chelsea and I and she had even a modicum amount of attraction for me as Judy has for you, it would only be only be platonic for as long as it would take to get somewhere private. Hurry up and get out of this situation. I'm pretty sure her mom would take her in. She has 8 siblings and 5 of them can take her in. By the end of the week, I expect for you to find a permanent solution to your living arrangement. As for the rest of what's going on, I will have to inform the board and they are going to want the suspension along with a letter of explanation. And the church will have to be informed."
"Do I have a chance to say anything to the church?" asked Neil.
"If you want to you can however that will most likely not work in your favour when it comes to opinion. I suggest you tell your close friends and families. I wouldn't want. Your parents hearing about it from me in front of everyone else."
"Can we make a stop before I take you home?" asked Alexis.
"As long as you take me over to Casey's instead. I got some clothes at his place and I can change before our date. He's taking me out for dinner at Harlem," said Chelsea with a smile, not noticing Alexis clenching his jaw.
"What time do you need to be there for?" asked Alexis, wishing things could be otherwise.
"Seven should be good. I wonder if I have an extra rag at Casey's."
"Let's go to Cafe Audrey and I'll buy you a mocha frapaccino with a ginger biscotti," said Alexis trying to divert the conversation.
"You sure know how to get a lady's attention," said Chelsea with a smile.
Chelsea smiled as Alexis placed her drink and biscotti before her.
"Thank-you," she said before she took a sip. Alexis was completely mesmerised by her.
"I need to ask you some questions, regarding Judy," said Alexis, trying to keep his mind focused.
"Like what? What does she have to do with anything?" asked Chelsea defensively.
"She does have something to do with a new issue at church. What I need to know is what you know.". Chelsea diverted her eyes, looking over his shoulder. "Chelsea, look me in the eyes and tell me you knew nothing about this!"
Chelsea stayed silent for a long time. Alexis had the answer but it was one he didn't want to be the truth. "'Thou shalt not bear false witness', right? This is my sister. She has nothing to do with our church issues. I have only talked to her, not Neil. As far as I'm concerned, since Neil has not said anything to me nor have I even seen her at his house since she got beaten up by her soon to be ex-husband, there is nothing to be said. Besides she's just his new roomate."
"He's slept with her already Chelsea," said Alexis in a quiet but powerful voice.
"And that I didn't know." Chelsea rested her head in her hands. "Neil told you all this? Why?"
"Because he knows he will get in serious trouble with the church when it comes out."
"It's not like he's on the board or anything more than a member at large," said Chelsea.
"This code of conduct applies to all Christians, not just a chosen few and by you not saying anything, you can get kicked off the board for not being forthcoming with the knowledge you have."
"I'm only on the board because I'm on the leadership team dealing with the youth, not because I was voted on it."
"You can be so frustrating sometimes," growled Alexis.
"But you love me anyways, right?" said Chelsea trying to make Alexis chuckle, even if it was just a bit.
"Something will never change Chels," said Alexis. "You can't treat me the same way you always have. I'm not just your buddy anymore-"
"You're my best friend," interrupted Chelsea. ~ This girl can be so dense sometimes ~ thought Alexis.
"I'm also your Pastor now," finished Alexis.

Drabble #003

Universe: Sutton Chronicles
Main Characters:
- Mari Douglas and the other members of her youth choir
First performance jitters. This is the first time the choir was presenting to the congregation, and considering that this did not have an adult involved and this choir was completely youth led, under the direction of the reclusive Mari Douglas, it was understandable that they were nervous.
"Where's my sheet music?" whispered Mari harshly.
"You don't need it," said Matthew.
"Don't be difficult," said Mari.
"It's at the piano," said Donna, as she picked up her mic. She placed her hands on Mari's shoulders. "Deep breaths Mar." Mari complied. "Where's your headset?"
"Grampa gave it to me," said Mari, as she hears the moderator call them up.
Mari felt the nervousness washing away as she approached the piano. ~ I can do this. This is exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm putting it in your hands God ~
